Lazio’s hard-hitting defender Lorik Cana intends to leave the club if they do not qualify for European competition next season.

The Biancocelesti have slid down to sixth on the Serie A table after consecutive defeats, and face a tricky trip to Udinese this weekend.

Cana, who has been at the club for four seasons now since joining from Galatasaray in 2011, admits that he may depart the club at the conclusion of the season.

“I still have a year and a half remaining on my current contract,’  the 31-year-old told Albanian channel KTV Kohavision.

“If Lazio qualify for Europe, then I’ll probably remain until the end of the contract. I’ll leave Lazio, either this summer or next.

“In truth, I hope it’s next year so it means that we would’ve qualified for Europe!

“I don’t think I’ll remain in Italy. I’d love to try another adventure in a top league, and the Bundesliga and La Liga are the two I’ve yet to experience.

“I prefer Germany though. In terms of the stadiums, the championship, the fans. When the time comes I’ll assess all options.

“I want to play for a competitive team. Not one that has to directly challenge Bayern Munich, but one that plays at a satisfactory level and fights for Europe.”
