Ederson has responded to Lazio fans following a barrage of insults after he refused to leave the club in the final moments of the January transfer window.

Lazio had lined up a deal for Sampdoria’s Gonzalo Bergessio, but it was dependent on Ederson agreeing to move in the opposite direction, which he decided against, much to the dismay of Biancocelesti supporters.

“I’m sorry to see all this controversy, all these insults and threats for something I didn’t even have time to consider properly,” the Brazilian said, via on his Instagram account.

“I always dreamt of playing for Lazio and I always try to do my best for the shirt.

“For these reasons I think it is difficult to make a decision in less than two hours, at the end of the transfer window.

“We [Lazio] have a great group, we are doing well and I don’t want to create a situation that could destabilise the team.

“So I will continue as always, and concentrate as much as possible on achieving our [Lazio’s] goals.”
