Atalanta new boy Urby Emanuelson has revealed the club called him every day during the transfer window as they looked to secure his signature.

The player had been linked with a move away from Roma almost since his arrival, as he was very much seen as a fringe player at the Giallorossi.

Speaking to the official Atalanta club website, the Dutch full-back declared his delight to sign for the Bergamo club.

“I’m glad to have signed for Atalanta,” he began.

“I immediately felt the confidence the club and the coach had in me.”

He continued to reveal that despite having several offers, no other club convinced him that they wanted him as much as Stefano Colantuono’s side.

“I had other offers, but Atalanta called me every day to bring me here.

“Nobody convinced me as well as the Nerazzuri.

“The belief of the coach was important in helping me choose to come here.”

The 28-year-old made his Dea debut at the weekend, during his new club’s 2-1 victory over fellow strugglers Cagliari, and he stated the importance of continuing to earn results like this.

“I am happy with my first game, the way I played, the victory over Cagliari.

“It was an important three points.

“We have the potential to do well, we must continue to play like we did on Sunday.”

Atalanta have been struggling this season but have seen their fortunes take a turn for the better in recent matches and they currently find themselves in 15th place in Serie A, five points above the relegation zone.
