Carlo TavecchioFIGC president Carlo Tavecchio insists that Italy coach Antonio Conte’s future is not in doubt.

Azzurri coach Conte had a meeting with Tavecchio earlier this week after they were forced to cancel a training programme later in February.

Reports in Italy had suggested that Conte was close to resigning from his post.

But Tavecchio confirmed in an interview with Radio Sportiva that Conte will remain with La Nazionale.

“Conte said he will stay with us, despite others who thought the opposite,” said the 71-year-old president.

“There was no reason to create all of this fuss, to create a very precarious situation where it wasn’t necessary.”

Conte’s contract expires in 2016, raising suspicions that he will leave after the 2016 European Championship.

It took a lot to convince Conte to accept the job, Tavecchio said, as there are a lot of nations who “envy” the former Juventus boss.

“We have made a great effort to be able to have Conte’s services,” Tavecchio said.

“Conte is a person others envy, and we give him the best we can. We put the youth academies in his hands so that he has the ability intervene at all levels of the national team.”

Tavecchio also expressed his eagerness to prevent situations like Parma’s from happening in the future. Parma was sold for the second time in two months, and the club has until February 16 to make payments.

“These situations will lead us to bring in new regulations regarding the entrance of limited companies into Serie A,” Tavecchio said.

“After that, we will put an end to these bad stories that may jeopardize sporting results during the championship.

“In case of failure at Parma? The liquidator may decide to continue business temporarily like other times to see if they can handle the situation. Failure, however, resets everything.”
