Former Parma owner Tommaso Ghirardi has received death threats in relation to the ongoing financial crisis which has engulfed the Emilia-Romagna club.

The Ducali are on the brink of bankruptcy and administration following two changes of ownership in the space of three months since Ghirardi sold the club to Albanian tycoon Rezart Taçi in December of last year.

Players and staff have not received any of their salaries this season and earlier in the week bailiffs began seizing club property.

Supporters are understandably angry and some of that fury has been directed towards Ghirardi who has reported insulting and threatening gratify on the walls of his villa near Carpenedolo, in the province of Brescia.

It is believed that this is the latest attack against the 39-year-old in a sustained campaign of threats in recent days which has also included menacing telephone calls.

Ghirardi has contacted the authorities over the incidents and the public prosecutor’s office in Brescia, assisted by police, have confirmed that they have opened an investigation into the matter.
