Galliani: AC Milan will move forwards with Inzaghi
Galliani also said that Milan should not set limits to their ambition for the remainder of the 2014-15 Serie A but that the coach does not have specific targets that he must meet.
“The president [Silvio Berlusconi] said that he [Inzaghi] will stay and pick up experience,” said Galliani at the unveiling of the new arrivals at Casa Milan.
“None of us have ever said that he [Inzaghi] won’t remain in his post.”
“Inzaghi’s position is not under discussion, in fact he has a contract for next year.
“There’s no ultimatum that says we have to finish in Europe and anything else isn’t good enough.
“No, we will go forwards together.
“After 29 years at Milan I still can’t understand this team, following the friendly win against Real Madrid we thought we were improving, I don’t understand what happened in January [When Milan won two games from seven].”
The vice president also spoke about the club’s ambitions for the remainder of the 2014-15 campaign.
“I won’t speak about the Europa League, we don’t know where we can finish up with this squad.”
“In December we were level with Napoli on points and after seven games we had a number of points that on average gets you into the Champions League.
“We have a very strong squad.
“We win points against the big teams but then lose against the small ones and injuries have had their impact.
“Every time we have spoken about getting third place we have failed to do so, therefore it is better for me to listen to [Basketball coach] Dan Peterson who sends me messages saying we need to put our heads down and keep peddling.
“There is no compulsory objective that Milan have to reach and therefore there is not one for Inzaghi either.”
Milan’s star signing Mattia Destro also spoke at the event about his desire to prove himself in the shirt of the Rossoneri.
“I want to display my value and this is the perfect team for me to do it in.”
“When they told me that Galliani had travelled to Rome for me I couldn’t believe it, this gesture counted above anything else and it made me very proud.
“Now I want to give everything for this shirt.
“If I can give half of what some of the great attackers who have worn this shirt gave, starting with Inzaghi, then that would be a great thing.”
