Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini believes that the Grifone’s 1-1 draw with Sampdoria is a set-back for their hopes of qualifying for a place in Europe next season.

The Rossolbu remain level on points with the Blucerchiati in sixth place after the Derby della Lanterna, in which Iago Falque put Gasperini’s side ahead on 17 minutes before Brazilian striker Eder levelled the score.

“With a win tonight we could believe in getting to Europe, but we have to make up these lost two points. However, we must be satisfied and grow as a team,” the 57-year-old told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are saddened by the result as we tested Sampdoria and got a goal in the first-half, but we dropped off too much in the second-half.

“I will talk to [Facundo] Roncaglia about his mistake, it was an error in a big derby game and it annoys me that these errors persist. Especially as we were in the lead, and at 1-1 it is a different game.”
