Roma forward Gervinho has made his return to Italy earlier than expected after dealing with a death in his family following his Africa Cup of Nations win with the Ivory Coast national team.

The 27-year-old was thought to be remaining in his home country for longer than originally scheduled due to the family tragedy, but was spotted arriving at the Fiumicino Airport in Rome on Friday as was planned in the first place.

Gervinho briefly spoke to the press while waiting to receive his luggage and claimed that he’s doing fine despite his continued grieving process.

“I’m fine, I’m doing all right,” said the Ivorian international, who helped lead his country to their second Africa Cup of Nations victory, with their first tournament win coming back in 1992.

The forward’s Ivory Coast and Giallorossi team-mate Seydou Doumbia also arrived in Italy’s capital on Friday and is expected to begin training with his new club as soon as possible.

Roma will be facing Parma at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, though it’s unknown if either of the returning players will participate in the match.
