Napoli captain Marek Hamsik underlined the importance of his side’s 2-0 victory against Sassuolo on Monday night, stating that it draws them nearer to second place.
The Partenopei now sit in third in the Serie A standings, three points off Roma, and Hamsik has stated that the win was important to close in on the Giallorossi.
“It was important to take all three points from the game, especially because it’s at home,” he told Rai Sport. “The win made us bridge the gap with Roma in second.
“We knew it would not be easy; our aim was not to concede.
“Given that we are a very dangerous team in attack, we knew we’d score sooner or later.
Hamsik concluded his words by expressing his happiness at scoring his side’s second goal on the night.
“I’m happy, it’s always nice to score,” he said.
