Lazio and Sampdoria reach deal for Gonzalo Bergessio

The race is on for Sampdoria’s Gonzalo Bergessio to complete his move to Lazio before the transfer window closes this evening after an agreement was reached between the two clubs.

The Argentine only joined the Genoa based side from Catania in the Summer, but he has struggled for form at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and is likely to find his game time restricted following the high profile January arrivals of Samuel Eto’o and Luis Muriel.

Sky Sport Italia understands that an agreement has been reached in principle to take the 30-year-old to Rome and it is reported that he has already completed a medical in Genoa this morning.

The exact details of the transfer are yet to be fully disclosed to the media but it is believed that a short term loan is likely as Lazio seek to replace Filip Djordjevic who is set for an extended period out of the squad with a fractured ankle.
