Lazio midfielder Ederson’s rejection of a move to Sampdoria has scuppered the swap deal agreed between the two clubs, which would have seen Gonzalo Bergessio moving the other way.
The 30-year-old Argentine has already agreed to move to the capital but the move was dependant on whether Ederson decided to leave the capital and move to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
However, the Brazilian international rejected a move north to Sampdoria, thus Bergessio will remain at the Blucerchiati for the remainder of the season.
Both players have endured frustrating seasons with Bergessio only scoring one goal in 11 appearances since he move from relegated Catania, while Ederson has been in and out of the Biancocelesti team, having suffered injuries since moving to Italy back in 2012.
