Lega Serie B president Andrea Abodi has hit back at Lazio president and FIGC chief adviser Claudio Lotito.

Lotito made derogatory statements towards Serie B leaders Carpi as well as Frosinone and Latina, stating that if they are promoted to Serie A, then the league will be less appealing to television channels due to their limited fanbase.

“He thinks in the wrong way,” he told Radio24. “He represents an ideology that is the complete opposite of mine.

“My idea is that promotion and relegation should not never take into account the number of fans, for TV money also counts on the quality of football.

“The mechanism of promotion and relegation is crucial; Italian football cannot have the same system as the NBA.

“The contract of the English Premier League is much more than every other league, but it’s because the clubs there have other ways of getting money; clubs in Italy only have TV money.

“Lotito is living on another planet, I told him his way of thinking is the complete opposite to mine; he insulted 22 teams and he must bear that in mind.”

Abodi then went on to say that despite all of this he does not regret voting for current FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio, as well as speaking about changes to the Serie B system.

“I don’t regret voting for Tavecchio,” he said. “However, we must ensure that no one is a threat to the system.

“Two promotions instead of three? We might have many useless games towards the end; however, we have proposed a system similar to Germany with two going up and a play-off.”
