It has been confirmed that Leeds United’s Italian owner Massimo Cellino will not be forced to sell the club, despite currently serving a ban imposed by the Football League after being found guilty of tax evasion.

The former Cagliari owner has vowed to return to the presidency of Leeds once his ban expires in April and he will not be forced to sell his 75 percent stake in the Championship club.

According to Cellino’s lawyers, this is due to the shares being held in the name of Eleanora Sport rather than Cellino himself.

The controversial Italian has confirmed that he won’t walk away from a club that he has been majority owner of since April 2014. Although he can play no part in the running of Leeds currently, it would appear that there is little the Football League can do to stop him returning at the end of his ban.

Cellino has proved to be a popular figure at Elland Road in recent times. A key feature of his reign at the Yorkshire club has been the influx of Italian based players arriving at the club, as well as his notorious reputation for hiring and firing managers in quick succession.

Having dismissed 35 coaches during his two decades at Cagliari, Cellino has already been through five coaches during his short spell in England.
