Inter legend Sandro Mazzola believes incumbent Nerazzurri manager Roberto Mancini needs time to succeed and convince his players they are capable of beating any team.

In his second spell with the Milan side, Mancini has struggled for consistency, recording just four wins and five draws after 14 games since taking the reins from his predecessor, Walter Mazzarri in November.

“The results have not been the best,” Mazzola said to SocialCalcioNews.

“I think Mancini has failed to get into the heads of the players and make them believe they can win.

“However, the coach needs time and you [Inter] have to give it to him, because it is wrong to change the coach if the results do not come straight away.”

The 72-year-old also weighed in on striker Mauro Icardi’s confrontation with incensed Inter fans after the 3-1 defeat to Sassuolo last weekend.

“I am convinced Icardi regrets throwing his shirt to the fans,” Mazzola continued.

“He reacted impulsively when his shirt was thrown back to him which is certainly not a good idea.

“But he later apologized and regretted what he did. Now he should be forgiven and everyone should worry about his performances on the field.”
