An online appeal has been created to raise funds for the restoration of Rome’s city features which were damaged by Feyenoord fans recently.

A group of supporters of the Netherlands based side rioted in the city centre last Thursday, severely defacing a listed fountain which had only just been restored to full glory, and causing overall damage estimated to be around €3 million.

Although the mayor of Rotterdam has pledged his support to the city in prosecution matters, the financial implications had not been taken into account until a Dutch citizen set up an online fund to go towards the repairs.

The brainchild of Elisabeth Jane Bertrand, “Sorry Rome” has raised €4,000 thus far, with an overall target of €100,000 set.

Around 53 Feyenoord supporters were arrested in one day of violence, before and after their side’s 1-1 Europa League draw with Roma.
