Ahead of Palermo’s match at Lazio this Sunday, head coach of the Rosanero Giuseppe Iachini has stated that his main aim is still to avoid relegation despite his side being placed 8th in the Serie A table.

The Sicilians are currently four points behind the Biancocelesti and the 50-year-old tactician has added that he may have to tweak his formation if his side are to get a result in Rome.

“Our main objective at the moment is to avoid relegation,” said Iachini in his pre-match press conference.

“Then at the end of the season we will try to to see how high we can finish.

“For the match this weekend, we expect an organised Lazio side and we will have to play well if we are to get a result.”

Iachini then continued, discussing not only his choice of possible tactics for the upcoming match but also whether he will allow for Edgar Barreto to continue as captain after president Maurizio Zamparini confirmed that the player will probably join Sampdoria at the end of the season.

“Barreto is still my captain because this is what I have decided.  It is important to keep it the same for the good of the squad.

“We will go forwards without thinking about the details, we are just going to try to win as many games as we can.

“As for the possibility of playing three in defence; I always work on lots of ideas and tactics.

“Before the match I will assess my players and see who is fit, then I will decide on who will play.”

Lastly, the Palermo coach dispelled doubts of him leaving the club, stating that he will see out the remainder of the his current contract.

“I will respect my contract.”
