Genoa closed to within one place and two points of 6th-placed Lazio with a 1-0 victory at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A on Monday evening.

Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti was sent off when conceding a penalty in the 27th minute after fouling Genoa forward M’Baye Niang, which was then dispatched with ease by Diego Perotti with what proved to be the winning goal.

Federico Marchetti – 5 – Dismissed

Marchetti made a good save from Niang’s early free-kick, before felling the same player in the box for a penalty in the 27th minute resulting in a deserved red card.

Dusan Basta – 7 – Composed

Showed some great touches, got forward well when he was able and rarely gave the ball away.

Stefan De Vrij – 5.5 – Undisciplined

Dutchman De Vrij appeared to be lacking focus at the back with a series of late challenges eventually costing him a yellow card.

Lorik Cana – 6.5 – Solid

Experienced Cana put in a leader’s display when heading everything away at the back, while pushing into his old midfield role during the last 15 minutes in a vain attempt to drive his team onto an equaliser.

Stefan Radu – 6 – Dependable

Handled his defensive duties well and hardly put a foot wrong.

Danilo Cataldi – 5 – Sacrificed

Cataldi was replaced by substitute goalkeeper Etrit Berisha just before the half-hour without making much impact on the game.

Lucas Biglia – 6 – Persistent

Biglia tried to get hold of the ball in the middle of the park and bring others into play as much as possible, but most moves he attempted broke down. A poor free-kick that went over the bar summed up his night.

Marco Parolo – 5.5 – Quiet

Ticked over without effecting proceedings too much.

Antonio Candreva – 7 – Nuisance

Forward Candreva got into the 18-yard box regularly and caused the Genoa defence a few problems, while he was denied early on by a fine Mattia Perin save. Surprisingly substituted at half-time.

Miroslav Klose – 6.5 – Feisty

German legend Klose made his 100th appearance for Lazio, but drew a blank for a sixth time in six attempts against Genoa in Serie A. Great nodded set-up for Mauri in the second half almost opened the door for the home side.

Stefano Mauri – 7 – Unlucky

Captain Mauri hit the post in the second half when brilliantly put through by Klose and had a skilful overhead kick go just over the crossbar. Tried his heart out to drag Lazio back into the match after they fell behind.

Etrit Berisha – 6.5 – Replacement

Made a few good stops to keep Lazio in with a chance.

Felipe Anderson – N/A

Keita Balde – N/A
