David Moyes’ Real Sociedad have been linked with making a surprise move for former Parma striker Antonio Cassano, who remains a free agent.

The 32-year-old had his contract with the Ducali terminated by mutual consent before the transfer window closed as the club failed to pay him several months worth of  wages and were preparing their squad for Serie B next season.

After having been heavily linked with a move to his former side Bari, Sky Sport Italia have reported that Moyes is keen to bring the often troublesome forward to the Anoeta as cover for the injured Carlos Vela, who could miss the remainder of the season after picking up a knee injury in the club’s heavy defeat aginst Real Madrid.

Cassano has previously played in Spain for Real Madrid, where he came under severe criticism from the club for his unprofessional attitude and was promptly shipped out on loan to Sampdoria before making the move a permanent one in 2008.
