Former Lazio striker Tommaso Rocchi has revealed that he would have enjoyed playing under coach Stefano Pioli and expressed his hopes to see the Aquilotti finish in third place.

The Biancocelesti have been in great form for most of the season thanks to the tactician’s style of play, but the 37-year-old admits that the team must learn to secure positive results while dealing with injuries properly, as their current string of inconsistent performances have seen them drop eight points below the top three to sixth place.

Rocchi spoke to Radio IES about Lazio’s success this season under Pioli and touched on the need to manage the team a bit better due to the absence of Filip Djordjevic, while also commenting on the club’s potential to finish the campaign on a positive note.

“I hope that Lazio can manage to finish the season in third place,” said the veteran striker, who played at the capital city club from 2004-12.

“This is the most complete management I’ve seen of Claudio Lotito’s club, but they must learn to deal with accidents better.

“To play a season at your full potential you must make sure you have all the correct pieces to apply because some things will happen that are uncontrollable.

“It’s a risk to rely on only Miroslav Klose and Brayan Perea after the injury to Djordjevic. The club wanted to take in a new striker, but there was a problem despite their willingness.

“I really like Djordjevic, he’s a complete centre forward who has been properly placed within this team.

“I think that I would’ve enjoyed playing at Lazio under Pioli, he has a great philosophy regarding football and allows the team to express themselves as a group.”
