Roma are interested in signing Rafael Toloi from San Paolo on loan, according to reports.

The 24-year-old spent six months with the Giallorossi last season, making five appearances, and could be set to return amid difficulties in signing Vlad Chiriches from Tottenham Hotspur.

Tuttosport claim that a deal for the Brazil U20 international would be in the form of a loan deal until the end of the season, with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Roma are said to be looking at Toloi as an alternative to Chiriches because sporting director Walter Sabatini is only prepared to pay Spurs €500,000 for a loan deal whereas the North Londoners want closer to €2 million.

Rudi Garcia is keen to add a central defender to his squad, with Leandro Castan a long-term absentee after having brain surgery earlier this year.
