Sampdoria are reportedly close to finalising an agreement with former Deportivo La Coruna defender Modibo Diakite and are apparently still waiting on a response from Catania defender Nicolas Spolli.

Diakite, who has previously played in the Serie A at both Lazio and Fiorentina, has passed his medical for the Genoese side on Monday and is now only lacking a signature on his contract with the Blucerchiati, though coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has temporarily put a hold on completing an agreement with the ex-Sunderland man.

According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, Mihajlovic has stalled the signing of the Frenchman as he waits for original centre back target Spolli to make a decision regarding his possible future at Sampdoria, with plans to land both defenders simultaneously in the final hours of the January transfer window.

Spolli has made 16 Serie B appearances for Catantia this term thus far, while Diakite has been a free agent since being released from Deportivo on January 1.
