Round 21 of the Serie A season saw the top duo of Juventus and Roma held to draws whilst Napoli maintained their push for third place with a 2-1 win over Chievo.

Inter’s struggles continued after they lost 3-1 to Sassuolo, and Torino thumped Sampdoria 5-1. AC Milan defeated Parma 3-1 at the San Siro in the Sunday evening clash thanks to two goals and an assist from Jeremy Menez.

The formation chosen for the Team of The Week is a 4-4-2 with two players each from Torino, Genoa and Sassuolo making up the eleven.

Maicon switches from his usual right back slot to the left to allow compatriot Bruno Peres to enter the side.

Do you agree with our choices? Feel free to leave a comment if you feel we have overlooked anybody.

Luigi  Sepe – Empoli

Repelled everything Roma threw at him bar a well taken finish from Maicon. Claimed several high balls with authority and communicated clearly with his defenders. The young keeper who is on loan from Napoli is having a solid debut season in Serie A.

Bruno Peres – Torino (3 Team of The Week Appearances)

Perhaps made one too many rash challenge but that aside completely dominated down the right flank as Torino surprisingly thrashed Sampdoria 5-1. Never stopped bombing forward even when the result wasn’t in doubt. Provided an assist for Amauri and also got his name on the score sheet.

Team of the Week 21Danielle Capelli – Cesena

Made several aerial clearances and a couple of crucial interventions as Cesena survived late Lazio pressure to claim a surprise win over the Biancocelesti.

Gonzalo Rodriguez – Fiorentina (2 apps)

Negated the threat of tricky Genoa forwards M’baye Niang and Iago Falque for long periods, showing an unexpected turn of pace on a couple of occasions.  Also popped up to score a decisive equalizer for his side.

Maicon – Roma (3 apps)

Become more of an influence as the game against Empoli developed, particularly after the opponents were reduced to ten men. Made several of his trademark forays down the right flank helping to pin back the away team and earned his side a point with an opportunistic left footed finish.

Nicola Sansone – Sassuolo

A menace with the ball at his feet. The attacking midfielder was unplayable at times and capped his performance with a fine solo goal. Blotted his copy book by receiving a late red card however.

Juraj Kucka – Genoa

The Slovakian was on top form as he dominated the midfield against a technically gifted Fiorentina side. Stung the palms of goalkeeper Tatausanu on a couple of occasions and always attempted to drive his team forward, playing a number of defence splitting passes.

Allan – Udinese (3 apps)

Was superb at protecting his centre backs and also looked to create when in possession. Had a great battle with Bianconeri star Paul Pogba which he arguably came out on top of, something not many people can say.

Diego Perotti – Genoa (2 apps)

His nimble footwork and pace caused Fiorentina constant problems in the Saturday afternoon clash. Tested the opposing goalkeeper on several occasions and was unlucky not to score late on when he had an effort cleared of the line.

Fabio Quagliarella – Torino

The veteran forward helped himself to a hat trick as the Granata routed Sampdoria 5-1 in the shock result of the weekend. His first was relatively straightforward, the second a coolly taken penalty and the third a lovely finish that showcased his excellent technique.

Simone Zaza – Sassuolo (2 apps)

Was a complete nuisance to the Inter centre backs, never giving Andrea Ranocchia or Nemanja Vidic a moment to rest and rewarded for his endeavour when he scored with a rocket of a shot in the first half.
