Conte - Norway v ItalyFIGC president Carlo Tavecchio has stated that he wishes to renew Antonio Conte’s contract as Italy coach beyond the 2016 European Championships.

Rumours suggested that the former Juventus coach could resign as coach of the Azzurri due to being forced to cancel a mid-season training camp, but after Conte himself denied this Tavecchio has also reaffirmed his faith in the 45-year-old.

“I want to renew the contract with Antonio Conte, not annul it; this is our objective when it will expire,” said Tavecchio after talks with Conte, as reported by ANSA.it.

The former Italy international has also recently declined to comment on the possibility that he may have to stand trial for sporting fraud in connection with a match-fixing case, a story which again led to rumours that he may resign from his Azzurri post.
