World Cup winner Lilian Thuram says he is dismayed at the financial mismanagement by his former club Parma.

The Gialloblu qualified for Europe by finishing sixth last season but since the Italian Football Federation refused to grant them a UEFA licence due to financial irregularities, the club have lurched from one crisis to another.

The players have not been paid regularly by the club, leading to Antonio Cassano to cancel his contract, and Roberto Donadoni’s side are bottom of Serie A ten points from safety.

“It’s strange to see these problems,” said Thuram in an interview with Radio Deejay.

The former French defender won the Uefa Cup and Coppa Italia during his five year spell at the Tardini before a €41 million move to Juventus in 2001.

The 43-year-old is shocked at the state the club finds itself in.

“Only 11 years ago the club went out of business,’ Thuram said.

“So to see the team mismanaged again, it’s very sad.”
