Torino are ready to turn to crowdfunding in their attempts to refurbish the club’s historical Stadio Filadelfia as the Granata look to join the growing list of Italian clubs who own their own stadiums.

Torino played in the ground prior to their move to the Stadio Olimpico in 1963 and despite falling into dereliction in recent years it is still regarded by supporters as the team’s spiritual home.

Steps have already been taken to begin a process that would breath life back into the old stadium and Tuttosport understands that Torino are exploring the option of crowdfunding to generate capital for the redevelopment.

Fabio Simonelli, who runs Italian equity-crowdfunding organisation Eppela, has already held talks with Professor Anna Claudia Pellicelli from the University of Turin’s Department of Management to discuss the project and look into ways of raising money.

Crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet.
