Former AC Milan and Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso is in the frame for the managerial vacancy at English League One side Peterborough United.

The 37-year-old became a cult figure in the UK after a successful season with Rangers in 1997/98, and having struggled as coach of Italian outfit Palermo, it seems that Great Britain may hold the key to the former midfield destroyer’s next job as he searches for managerial glory.

Peterborough currently sit in tenth-place in England’s third tier, League One, and having sacked coach Darren Ferguson – son of Manchester United legend Sir Alex – the Sunday Mirror report that Gattuso is in contention for the role.

Having spent 13 years at the San Siro, Gattuso began his coaching career as player-manager of Swiss side FC Sion, which led him to the Stadio Renzo Barbera. However, after failing to inspire the Rosanero in Serie B, he took up the top job at Greek side OFI Crete, only for that to be terminated due to financial problems.

At which point do the words ‘I want a British manager’ not make make sense to you?
Darragh has said this on several occasions.
