Napoli coach Rafa Benitez has reminded critics of his side’s accomplishments so far this season following just one win in their last seven matches in all competitions.
The Partenopei dropped to fifth in the Serie A standings after a 1-1 draw against Atalanta on Sunday and are now 20 points behind Juventus in first place, but are enjoying success in the cup competitions.
“This season things are going pretty well,” the 54-year-old tactician told Spanish radio station Cope.
“So far, we have already won the Supercoppa Italiana against an opponent of the level of Juventus.
“This is something very important and I want to highlight it.
“We’re also in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia. After a 1-1 draw away against Lazio in the first leg, now we’ll be playing to make it into another final.
“And we’re in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. It’s been 26 years since the last time this club made it so far in a continental competition.
“Not since the times of Diego Maradona did the club reach a similar level.”
