Torino president Urbano Cairo has revealed that he’s impressed with his team’s surprisingly great form in the Europa League thus far and hopes that Il Toro can achieve victory in their next match with Zenit St Petersburg.
The Granata will be taking on Zenitchiki in Russia on Thursday in their round of 16 first leg clash and the 57-year-old is confident that the Serie A side can secure a positive result just as they have in their recent games against tough opponents like Napoli and Athletic Club.
Cairo spoke to the press ahead of the Europa League battle between Zenit and Torino about the Turin side’s quality this season and commented on their need to play as a team if they want to succeed against their Russian opponents.
“Being at this stage of the competition is a great satisfaction, Torino are the revelation of the Europa League,” said the Granata chief.
“I do not think that many people were expecting to see us get this far, as we’re now in this majestic city preparing to face Zenit.
“The players are concentrated and focused. It will be important to take the field and show that we can do amazing things just as we did against Napoli and Athletic Club recently.
“We will be facing an important team with great players who will want to win. We will have to do our best, many unexpected things can happen in football.
“We are here to honour our shirt and I hope that all of the Torino fans will be showing our banner from their windows.
“Which player will have the best performance? I think the whole team should. The team brings in the goals, all together.
“We’re not going anywhere if we expect someone to do things on their own.”
