Former AC Milan and Lazio goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has linked up with the Republic of Ireland under-21 team’s coaching staff.

Cudicini recently completed his UEFA B licence with the Football Association of Ireland and will now take on the vacant goalkeeping coach position following previous incumbent Alan O’Neill’s relinquishment of the role.

“Carlo Cudicini is coming in to do the goalkeepers initially. We’ll see how it goes and work together to try and win the game [on Thursday] obviously,” said head coach Noel King in an official statement on the FAI’s website.

“His experience will be a great help to us. It won’t be just goalkeeping – we’ll include him as we do with all our staff in the preparation.

“We’ll value his views and hopefully that’ll add strength to us.”

Under-21 coach King appointed the 41-year-old ex-Chelsea man ahead of Thursday’s European Championship qualifier against Andorra.
