Inter goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo wants his team to stay positive despite losing the first leg of their Europa League last-16 encounter against Wolfsburg on Thursday.

The Argentinian has played the bulk of games in the European competition, and coach Roberto Mancini opted to keep the 30-year-old in net over regular starter Samir Handanovic for the trip to Germany.

But Carrizo made two crucial errors that allowed Wolfsburg to win 3-1. A misplaced pass to defender Juan Jesus opened up the chance for Kevin De Bruyne to score the first of his two goals.

The second came off a free-kick, which eluded Carrizo on his near post.

“I’m not happy, my pass to Juan Jesus gave [Wolfsburg] a jolt,” he told Inter Channel after the match. “Unfortunately, it’s a part of the job, I have to live with that. But I am hopeful because they were not doing much up until my mistake.

“When you take to the pitch, sometimes you can make the wrong choice. This time it happened. I was in bad shape after placing the wall and the shot fooled me.”

Rodrigo Palacio’s opening strike proved a crucial away goal. But the result leaves Inter with the obligation of scoring at least twice at home in the return leg on March 19.

“We have to think positive, the tie is still open. With our fans at our side, we hope to play a great match.”
