Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking is determined to see the job through in the Europa League last-16, second-leg against Inter on Thursday.

Hecking’s side hold a commanding 3-1 lead from the opening leg which took place in Germany last week, but he is wary of the need to focus fully on the task in hand to avoid allowing Inter back into the tie.

“We are disappointed at the absence of Naldo, who is suspended. [Timm] Klose will play in his place,” explained Hecking to the assembled media at a pre-match press conference on Wednesday, which included Forza Italian Football.

“We have gained an advantage on Inter in the first leg, and it’s up to the Nerazzurri to overturn that result.

“Inter-Cesena? That result doesn’t affect what we have to do tomorrow.

“Inter is all we’re focusing on to get to the latter stages of the tournament.”

“We could be pressed tomorrow, as Inter will try to reverse the result, but we will be focused to the fullest.”

Meanwhile, when asked about the form of Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, Hecking initially only had one word to describe him.

“Good!” he said simply.

“He’s player who is having a super season, and the team is enjoying it.

“We want to do well in the Champions League next year.

“There is so much motivation [within the squad] to succeed in the game tomorrow, as we have not achieved anything yet.

“We do not fear Inter, but we respect them.”
