Former Juventus executive Luciano Moggi has said that he will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights in a bid to overturn his lifetime ban from football.

Nearly nine years after Calciopoli, Italy’s biggest football scandal, the investigation was closed on Monday, with Moggi’s sentence for alleged match-fixing having passed the statute of limitations, thus the charges were dropped.

Italy’s highest criminal court has accused Moggi of creating a network of contacts with FIGC officials to influence refereeing assignments.

The 77-year-old disgraced Italian executive has avoided a 28-month jail term for criminal association as the sentence is ruled to have gone beyond the statute of limitations, Moggi, however remains banned for life from Calcio.

“My battle goes on, I will turn to the European Court of Human Rights to clear even and return to the world of football,” said Moggi on Radio Crc.

“I did not have any personal interests, the sporting fraud and conspiracy, I could not have done it. I’ve always faced up to the accusations because I do not fear anyone.”
