Petkovic: Inler wanted to stay and fight for the Napoli jersey

Switzerland national team boss Vladimir Petkovic has hailed Gokhan Inler’s spirit in winning his first-team spot back at Napoli.

The former Lazio coach was talking to Blick, when he said that Inler chose to stay at the club in the winter despite interest from elsewhere, and his decision has been justified with consistent playing time in recent weeks.

“Inler had a few muscular problems after the matches he had with the national team, so that’s why he played little during that period,” Petkovic said.

“Napoli have so many good players, and it is only normal that there is a continuous rotation.

“In the last few matches, he has played sufficiently, as he is fit again and because he chose to stay and fight for the jersey.”
