Inter captain Andrea Ranocchia has revealed that the Biscione will do all they can to prevent Wolfsburg from scoring in their upcoming Europa League clash with the German club.

The Nerazzurri will be hosting the Bundesliga side at the San Siro in their round of 16 second leg on Thursday and will have to secure an impressive win in order to overturn their 3-1 loss during the first leg in Germany, which the 27-year-old feels is possible as long as the hosts can close down their opponent’s counter-attacks.

Ranocchia spoke to Sky Sport Italia 24 on Wednesday about what Inter must do to be successful against Wolfsburg and commented on the pride he feels in being the Milan side’s captain.

“When you concede goals there are many reasons to make big improvements, tomorrow we must not let Wolfsburg stage their counter-attacks,” said the Italian international.

“They’ll be good enough to build their attack but we’ll have to be solid in defence. This is the main thing we have to focus on while also trying to score.

“Being the Inter captain? Wearing this armband is always an honour. I keep a photo of Giacinto Facchetti, which his son gave to me, inside of it because he is an important figure to Inter, as well as to me.”
