Empoli coach Maurizio Sarri has spoken about his love for coaching after receiving the Silver Bench award as the best tactician in Serie B for the 2013-14 season.

Sarri spent 18 years working as a manager dealing with investments at the Monte Paschi di Siena, while coaching a series of minor clubs in Tuscany, before guiding the Castellani Azzurri to promotion last season.

“It gave me great pleasure to receive this award from my colleagues,” the 56-year-old tactician told Sky Sport Italia.

“I started as a player, then as I was not able to become a professional I went to work without neglecting football.

“I enjoyed myself and gradually worked through all the categories up to Serie A.

“I’m privileged because I do a job that I love and I think it’s a low percentage of people in the world who can say the same thing.”

Sarri also joked about rumoured job offers from Rubin Kazan and AC Milan.

“I read about the Russians like everyone else has done, but I know nothing about it,” he continued.

“Even my wife asked me if I knew something about it.

“While I hope that the people at Milanello are enjoying themselves when they watch Empoli.

“I am pleased to receive compliments from a person like [Adriano] Galliani, who has made history in football and lifted several European trophies.”
