Table-toppers Carpi fell to a 2-1 home defeat against Pescara at the Stadio Cabassi on Saturday afternoon in Serie B.

Goals from Marco Sansovini and Birkir Bjarnason put the visitors 2-0 in front and Carpi got a consolation in injury time through Alessio Sabbione.

The hosts really should have taken the lead early on. A short back-pass from Dario Zuparic was pounced on by Roberto Inglese and with loads of time, the striker tried to round the keeper but his effort was denied by Vincenzo Fiorillo.

Another chance fell to Carpi later as Antonio Di Gaudio went on a mazy and then from inside the box, blazed his shot over the bar.

Then the Delfini had their best chance so far to break the deadlock as a cross was played in to Federico Melchiorri but from close range, the striker missed his kick.

Six minutes into the second half, Pescara did take the lead through Sansovini. Francesco Zampano went on a rampaging run through the Carpi defence and played it to the striker who sweeped the ball into the bottom corner.

It was two for the Delfini ten minutes later as a free-kick on the right side evaded everyone but Bjarnason who placed the ball into the bottom corner.

The best chance of the match fell to Christian Pasquato of Pescara but he missed. The ball was squared to the man on-loan from Juventus but from two yards out with no goalkeeper he scooped it over the bar.

At the death, the Biancorossi pulled one back through Sabbione who met the free-kick to volley into the bottom corner.

Carpi remain top of the table eight points clear of Bologna, while Pescara go into the play off positions.

It was a crazy game for Ferdinando Sforzini of Virtus Entella as his side drew 3-3 with Frosinone.

The striker scored two goals in the first half, either side of a red card for Frosinone’s Danilo Soddimo to put Entella 2-0 up.

Then, the ten men Ciociari got it level before the break thanks to strikes from Federico Dionisi and Daniel Ciofani.

Dionisi then scored from the penalty spot to complete a come-back for Frosinone. But at the death, Sforzini netted a penalty himself to bring the game back to level terms again and to score his hat-trick.

But then as the game restarted, Sforzini was sent off for a late challenge to seal a quite bizarre day for the striker.

There were plenty of goals in the match between Trapani and Ternana, with the former coming out on top 4-2.

The hosts were 2-0 inside ten minutes thanks to goals from Mattia Aramu and Davis Curiale. But ten minutes later, Ternana were level as Fabio Ceravolo and Valeri Bojinov netted.

Then, before the break Giovanni Abate put the Granata back in front and Davis Curiale got his second to seal the game midway through the second half.

Perugia narrowly defeated Pro Vercelli 3-2 at the Stadio Renato Curi.

An own goal from Mattia Bani, a penalty from Marco Fossati and a strike from Matteo Ardemagni put the hosts 3-0 up with twenty minutes remaining.

Then Pro Vercelli attempted a mini come-back as Mohamed Coly and Mattia Sprocati got on the scoresheet but it wasn’t enough.

Latina got a precious 2-1 away win at Brescia to loft them out of the relegation places.

Federico Viviani put the visitors in front just before the break but Andrea Caracciolo levelled at the start of the second half.

Then, in the final quarter of an hour of the match Doudou Mangni put Latina back in front and they held on for the win.

Bari earned a convincing 3-0 win over Varese as they seek a late challenge for the play-offs.

Goals from Stefano Sabelli, Kingsley Boateng and Cristian Galano sealed the win for the Galletti.

Elsewhere, a goal from Antonio Piccolo was enough for Virtus Lanciano to claim a win against Avellino.

There was a goalless draw in the game between Cittadella and Crotone.
