With an agreement in place for Fiorentina goalkeeper Norberto Neto to head to reigning Serie A champions Juventus this summer, existing No.1 Gianluigi Buffon has reiterated his desire to play on for another three years.
The 37-year-old joined the Turin club for a world record €51m from Parma in 2001, and sounds intent on remaining first-choice for the Bianconeri despite the Neto’s arrival.
“I want to play on until I’m 40,” Buffon told Gazzetta dello Sport.
That admission from the Italian has seen some question whether a deal for the Viola stopper to arrive this summer could be under threat.
The 25-year-old has his eye on become first-choice for his country and, should he be unable to displace Buffon, would surely need to reevaluate those aspirations.
