Cagliari vice president Stefano Filucchi has played down their own Ultras breaking into the club’s training camp retreat to threaten and attack the squad.

The Ultras are reported to have insulted and threatened players, even slapping defender Nicola Murru and others in the face, but the official club position insists that it was only a tough and lively confrontation.

“There was an encounter between the team and around 20 to 25 supporters belonging to a stadium group,” Filucchi told Sky Sport Italia.

“I spoke with the squad, they told me that there was a tough and lively confrontation which does not entirely reconcile with the president’s openness towards dialogue.

“They accused the players of not giving their all, but the lads have so far given everything for the shirt. We do not see behaviour that is incompatible with our current sporting situation.

“Nothing irreparable happened, but obviously it is outside the norm.

“The players are thoroughly concentrated on the next game and we’ll play each match with the utmost effort.

“We have an ambitious long-term project that we want to push forward thanks also to healthy and positive support from our fans.

“Nothing will shake us from that and nobody can obstruct our desire to take Cagliari to a great level.”
