After a 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon in Serie A against Chievo at the Mapei Stadium, Sassuolo captain Paolo Cannavaro commended his team’s effort.

Domenico Berardi’s 23rd minute penalty was enough to seal all three points, but Sassuolo had to work hard at it following Federico Peluso’s sending off on 59 minutes.

Cannavaro praised his teammates in holding out for all three points, and pinned the victory down to Sassuolo’s carefree approach.

“We were all tired but I asked the team for more insouciance, which they were able to do,” Cannavaro said to Sky Sport Italia.

“Sassuolo’s play cannot only just be based on technique.

“Sometimes we need to be brave as well and add that little bit of healthy recklessness that we had today.”

Sassuolo are now 12th in Serie A, well clear of the relegation zone and safety more or less assured.
