Fiorentina defender Manuel Pasqual could see his contract with the club renewed at half-time in his next match, thanks to a clause in his deal.

The Italian is deep into his last contracted season with the Viola, but his playing agreement with the club is set to be automatically extended without the need for discussions.

There is a clause in the 33-year-old’s contract which states that a one-year extension will be automatically applied should the player feature for over 40 minutes in 20 separate appearances across his final year, according to SportItalia.

The player’s tally currently sits at 19 games where the criteria have been met, meaning that the clash at home against Hellas Verona on Monday will be the likely trigger for the expiry date of his deal to be pushed back another year.

Since the 2012-13 season, Pasqual has been the captain of the Florence-based Serie A side.
