Fiorentina captain Manuel Pasqual has spoken with joy after his contract with the club was extended for another year.

The 33-year-old’s contract was due to be automatically extended due to an appearance clause in the deal, but was handed an extension by Viola coach Vincenzo Montella prior to their clash against Dynamo Kiev, which the player says is important.

“The important thing is that the signature has arrived before I reached 20 appearances, it’s very important for me to have renewed and I am very happy that I can continue my adventure here in Florence,” the defender told during a club press conference.

Looking forward towards a crucial Europa League knockout challenge, Pasqual continued, “We will have to be combative. Lately we’ve missed with our results, and we’ve never gone through a period like this with Montella, but we must not get depressed as much depends on how the team can address when the period is not the best.”

Pasqual has been a Fiorentina mainstay since his move to Italy’s top flight in 2005, and has held the title of club captain since the 2012-13 season.
