heckingWolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking believes his side can qualify to the Europa League semi-finals at Napoli’s expense despite a 4-1 deficit from the first leg in Germany.

The 50-year-old acknowledges that it will be extremely difficult for his side to go through but they will give their all and Hecking believes he still has an excellent squad at his disposal.

“I did not enjoy the 4-1 loss in the first leg but we are a strong side and we are good enough to mount a comeback, although it will be extremely difficult if I’m being honest,” said Hecking at the pre-match press conference.

“We will be without important players [Andre Schuerrle, Kevin De Bruyne and Vieirinha] but I remain convinced that we have an excellent squad.”

“A lot will depend on luck and the type of performance we put in.

“The squad has been doing well recently even if we showed our limitations against Napoli in the first leg.

“Tomorrow against Napoli we must look to minimise every little type of error, every great side has its moments of difficulty.

“We must not give up and realise that there is still a chance we could go through.”

Hecking also offered his thoughts about opposite number Rafa Benitez.

“He will do everything to avoid losing the game and he will know how to prepare for it,” said Hecking.

The Wolfsburg coach also responded to reports in Germany that Naples is a dangerous city to visit for travelling fans.

“I don’t know anything about why they say that,” said Hecking.

“I can only say that from my hotel room I have a view of a fantastic sea and I can only fall in love with that view.”
