The future of the defensive midfielder could also depend on the future of Rafael Benitez, who is pushing for the renewal of the Uruguayan and deems him one of the most important players in his squad.
The former Inter and Parma player is meanwhile registering interest from Valencia, as well as Internacional and two major Mexican clubs.
