Mertens - Napoli v FiorentinaNapoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that Wednesday’s training session will be the team’s last of their enforced hideaway.

The squad were made to stay and work in a training camp for almost two weeks following a period in which the Partenopei went without a win in five Serie A matches and also dropped out of the Coppa Italia at the semi-final stage.

However, club captain Christian Maggio and the president have come to an agreement for the players to finally return home after an upturn in fortunes which has seen the Azzurri win three games in succession.

De Laurentiis spoke with Maggio by telephone in mutual acknowledgment that all squad members, along with coach Rafa Benitez, are ready to tackle their remaining fixtures with the utmost levels of focus and professionalism.

Napoli head into Thursday evening’s Europa League clash with Wolfsburg in absolute control of the quarter-final tie thanks to a 4-1 first leg victory in Germany last week.
