Roma have been ordered to close their Curva Sud for one game, along with a €12,000 fine, following unsavoury banners unfurled during their Serie A match against Napoli on Saturday afternoon.

The Giallorossi fans accused the mother of murdered Napoli fan Ciro Esposito of profiteering from her sons death following the release of her book titled ‘Ciro Lives’.

The Italian Football Association have taken swift action, deciding that the Curva Sud will remain closed for Roma’s match against Atalanta on April 19 at the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma’s President James Pallotta has expressed his anger at the closure of the section of stadium, with the 57-year-old upset that a minority of fans have caused the closure with their offensive banners.

“Everyone shouldn’t pay for a few idiots,” Pallotta told Roma Radio.

“I hope you understand well what I am about to say – we feel extremely frustrated and disappointed by the actions that were taken. Unfortunately we do not have the power to intervene when these incidents happen.

“It is not fair to all the fans who come to the stadium to suffer the consequences of idiotic and stupid decisions, taken by groups of stupid people.”
