Marco Sau scored but it ultimately proved not enough, as Cagliari fell to a 3-1 home defeat to Lazio on Saturday afternoon in Serie A.

Cagliari had just equalised before Lucas Biglia fired Lazio back into the lead from the penalty spot, and then saw themselves further handicapped by Modibo Diakite’s red card on 68 minutes.

Sau bemoaned the red card and Cagliari’s negative spiral, in which everything seems to be going against them recently.

“Unfortunately it [the goal] was a short-lived hope,” read Cagliari’s official website of Sau’s post-match comments.

“After the Biglia penalty came the Diakite’s sending off, which only further hamstrung us.

“Things are turning bad, we cannot win games and everything looks to be going against us.

“We cannot give up however, there are many more games ahead of us and the wheel has to eventually turn [in our favour].

“We approached the game well enough today, and we must remember that we played an in-form Lazio team.”
