Uncertainty surrounding Rafa Benitez’s future intensified as he refused to confirm that he would be extending his time with Napoli.
Benitez’s contract is due to expire at the end of this season and with Napoli sliding down the Serie A table it looks increasingly likely that he will leave at the conclusion of this campaign.
Benitez spoke to Spanish newspaper Marca following his team’s latest defeat, away to Roma at the weekend.
“I’ll take a decision shortly, I will meet in the coming weeks with the president [Aurelio De Laurentiis] and we will find a solution for the future,” the tactician said.
According to Marca, his hope is to return to Liverpool, where he won the Champions League in 2005.
Having won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana during his time in Naples speculation is rife that Benitez is set for a return to the English Premier League.
