AC Milan are hoping to convince former coach Carlo Ancelotti to return to the Rossoneri if he is dismissed from his current position with Real Madrid.

Despite delivering La Decima for the Spanish side when he won the Champions League last season, the 55-year-old is expected to be sacked by president Florentino Pérez in the coming days after failing to defend the famous trophy and losing out to Barcelona in the league.

Sky Sport Italia understands that Milan have already dispatched emissaries to Madrid in an effort to convince Ancelotti to return to Milanello following his impeding departure from Los Blancos. Ancelotti has previously expressed a desire to return to Milan, although other reports indicate that he may also consider taking a year long sabbatical in Canada.

The Reggiolo born tactician would need to take a substantial pay cut to join Milan, but he does have strong emotional ties to the club having spent five years at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as player before leading the Rossoneri to two Champions League titles during his initial spell as coach.
