Serie A side Roma are keeping close tabs on Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke as they look to prepare for next season’s league and European campaign.
The Giallorossi were expected to mount a serious challenge to the Juventus stranglehold on the championship, but despite a strong start fell away badly since last December and currently find themselves a huge 16 points behind the newly-crowned Scudetto winners.
Sportitalia is reporting that despite the sanctions handed down to Rudi Garcia’s side by governing body UEFA for breaking Financial Fair Play regulations, the Italians will still attempt to make a big summer signing and that Belgian international Benteke is one of the names on their shopping list.
The story suggests that competition for the 24-year-old’s signature is expected to be fierce, with the likes of Chelsea rumoured to be keen on making an offer for the striker.
Benteke has scored 41 times in 87 appearances since joining his current side back in 2012.
