The 45-year-old tactician spent four memorable years at the Stadio Olimpico and was a central figure in the team that won the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia double in 2000.
“I am sure that one day I will coach Lazio because that is how life is,” said Simeone in an interview with Lazialita.
“As with Atletico Madrid; I had played there in the past and gave my soul to the club, I have since become coach and I believe that this will also be the case with Lazio.
“I am convinced that I will always return to the places where I was a player.
“Lazio was a fantastic part of my career and I spent four memorable years there. The people always loved me and bit by bit I made them appreciate me as a player.”
Simeone is currently under contract with Atletico Madrid until 2020 and he has stated that he is currently happy to remain with the reigning Spanish champions.
“Right now I am very happy at Atletico Madrid, but life is long and one day I will be there, dressed in black as always.”
